“ The most authentic thing about us, is our capacity to create, to overcome, to endure, to transform, to love, and to be greater than our suffering.” Ben Okri
The quote above, is quite literally one of my favourites - quotes are big in the yoga world! :) - and that’s one that I come back to time and again.
It reminds me that we are stronger than we think we are, we all have our challenges, that until you get to know someone, you don’t really what someone else might be going through (so be kind!), and that the human spirit at its best, is incredibly resilient, and full of beauty and love.
This is why I practice and teach yoga.
I won’t take you through my whole yoga journey, but suffice to say that when I first started practicing asana - power yoga classes - I was only interested in whether the physical practice would make me strong, fit, and flexible - and mostly, it did.
But that wasn’t the most powerful thing about those early classes. Something else started to awaken within me. I started becoming more aware of myself, my thoughts, my relationship with myself, and others.
I’m now a Senior Yoga Teacher. I teach a range of styles of classes including Vinyasa, Power, Yin, and a really fun but not for the faint-hearted, Yoga HIIT style that incorporates resistance training and cardio. Some of these classes are strong, some are soft, we never take ourselves too seriously.
Expect an anatomically informed approach which works for your body, and I’ll probably insidiously sneak in some philosophy, with the intention of adding a little bit of light and a little bit of love.
I’ve also led numerous Yoga Teacher Trainings. When yoga trainings are done right, they are transformational, and it is my privilege and my honour to be able to dig deeper with my students, support them and hold space for their journey as they become teachers and embrace yoga in their lives.
